Athletics, Arts Alliance — Mission Statement

The Athletics, Arts Alliance exists to educate, inspire, and empower the complete scholar by bringing together athletics, artistic expression, education, media, and community service.

Inspired by the classical Greek ideal that a flourishing individual develops both mind and body, the Alliance creates opportunities for young people, students, athletes, artists, educators, and communities to pursue excellence across disciplines rather than being defined by a single talent.

Through sports, dance, photography, filmmaking, video production, performance, social media, digital storytelling, academic programs, workshops, mentorship, and community projects, the Athletics, Arts Alliance seeks to develop confident and capable individuals who can think critically, create boldly, compete honorably, communicate effectively, and contribute meaningfully to society.

The Alliance supports projects in which athletics, arts, and education strengthen one another. An athlete can also be an artist. An artist can be a scholar. A filmmaker can tell the story of an athlete. A student can learn communication by producing media. A dancer can study history, culture, health, and performance. Through these connections, the Alliance seeks to restore a broader understanding of education—one concerned not simply with achievement, but with the development of the complete person.

    Three Pillars — One Mission

ATHLETICS develops discipline, perseverance, teamwork, leadership, health, confidence, and the pursuit of excellence. Alliance initiatives may include athletic programs, competitions, clinics, mentorship, documentaries, athlete storytelling, sports media, and opportunities that expand participation in underserved or developing sports.

ARTS develops creativity, expression, cultural understanding, imagination, and the ability to communicate the human experience. Programs may encompass dance, photography, film, video, acting, screenwriting, music, live performance, visual arts, social-media storytelling, and emerging forms of digital creativity.

EDUCATION connects the two. Through workshops, mentoring, lectures, research, media literacy, communication training, filmmaking instruction, leadership development, internships, experiential learning, and educational media, the Alliance encourages participants to understand why they create, why they compete, and how those experiences can contribute to a meaningful life.

    Organizations Under the Alliance

Girls Wrestling Alliance — advances opportunities for girls and women in wrestling through athletic participation, education, mentorship, events, media coverage, storytelling, historical preservation, and advocacy for the growth of the sport. This builds naturally upon the founders’ substantial prior involvement in girls’ wrestling promotion, tournament leadership, coaching and media.

Attitude Alliance of Dance — supports dance as an athletic, artistic, educational, and cultural discipline. Projects can provide performance opportunities, instruction, workshops, youth outreach, dance films, historical and cultural education, competitions, exhibitions, and digital media. Both founders have extensive histories in dance performance, instruction, judging, event production and community arts programming.

Aperture Alliance of Independent Film — led by Dr. TJ Zito and Dr. Wendy Zito, supports independent filmmaking, photography, screenwriting, acting, directing, cinematography, editing, sound, documentary work, social-media production and emerging visual storytelling. It can provide education and hands-on production opportunities while creating films that document and celebrate athletics, arts, education, culture and community. Their existing work in independent film, video production, web programming and academic communication provides a strong foundation for this initiative.
